‘Aqedah can be understood as ‘belief’. It’s come from word عقد which means
“contract”. In Islamic teaching, ‘Aqedah is someone’s belief, which believes in
oneness of God, ALLAH S.W.T.
There two Syahadat (confession) that all
Muslim must believe and live with:
“I bear witness that there is no other God but
Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger”.
These
confessions are the root to Aqedah of every Muslim. Muslims must have faith in
HIM, the one and worthy of all worship (Tawhid), faith in HIS Angels (Mali’ka),
faith in HIS Books (kutub) send by ALLAH to HIS Messenger and Prophets (Taurat,
Zabur, Injil and Quran), faith in HIS Messengers and Prophets, faith in the Day
of Judgment (Qiyama) and the Resurrection Day (life after death), and faith in
Destiny (fate/ Qada and Qadar). These are the six article of belief call Pillars
of Iman (faith) which derives from the famous Hadith of Gabriel (Jibril). In
Quran Surah al- Baqarah:
“… Whoever disbelieved in God and
HIS Angels and HIS Scriptures and HIS Messenger and the Last Day, he verily
wandered far astray…” [Al- Baqarah : 136].
‘Aqedah is like a tree which its root is Syariah Islamiah, which means
Allah’s Laws. Which the fruits is our ‘amal soleh (good deeds), which its
fertilizers with Iman and Taqwa (God fearing) to Him.
Faith (IMAN)
Islam means Obedience to God, fully surrender and submit our self to
HIM. Iman can lead us to the only one path to good life in the world and also
to succeed in the life which begins after death. As a Muslim, we have not only
to accept the existence of God, but we must accept what follows from our belief
in God, namely:
1. ALLAH is one. There is no like HIM, nor can there ever be. He has no
shape, nor can He assume any shape.
2. ALLAH is neither a son nor a father. He does not have wife, nor sister,
nor brother nor does He beling to any community or family. Nothing can be
compared with ALLAH.
In Quran;
“Say, He is ALLAH, the only one; to Him all creatures
depend on; He got no son nor He is begotten; and no one comparable to Him”.
[Al- Ikhlas: 1-4]
3. The attributes of ALLAH cannot be found in anyone else. He is the
creator of all.
4. ALLAH knows the unseen. He knows everything whether it si obvious or
hidden. Whatever has happened before or what will happen later on, only Him who
knows the past and the future.
5. He has full control over loss and gain. None can harm or benefit anyone
accept ALLAH. In Al- Baqarah:
“Allah, there is no God but Him, who Living Eternal,
who manage his creatures; he who is never sleepy nor sleep. He is all that is
in heaven and on earth. Can intercede in the side of Him without His
permission? He is the all knows what is before them and behind them, and they
do not know anything of His knowledge save in what He wills…” [Al Baqarah:
255].
6. It is only Allah who can make laws for us, and hence we should obey Him.
